The Problem We Solve

Japan has some of the most well-designed public spaces in the world — and some of the most confusing smoking laws for first-time visitors. Each of Tokyo's 23 special wards enforces its own outdoor smoking ordinance, with fines up to ¥2,000 handed out on the spot by uniformed patrol officers who speak little English.

Most tourists find out about these rules the hard way — with a fine and a language barrier. Smok exists so that doesn't happen to you. We map every designated public smoking area (kitsuenjo), add the hours, link to directions, and keep the data current.

What We Cover

Interactive maps of designated smoking areas by city and ward, with real-time access to hours and directions.

Detailed spot pages with photos, walking directions, opening hours, and nearby landmarks.

Smoking rules guides — ward-by-ward fine breakdowns, IQOS/vape regulations, age laws, and hotel policies.

Practical travel guides — how to buy cigarettes at a combini, customs limits, pocket ashtrays, and more.

Data Sources

Smoking area locations are sourced from official Taito City ward data, cross-referenced with Google Maps and on-the-ground verification. We link directly to the official ward smoking area map PDF for transparency.
